in China,
1, Sz A Chim, of Canton, Watchman, do solernly
and sincerely declare that:-
A
1. I am employed by Messrs. Shewan Tomes & Co. of Canton who pay me a salary of $12 per month to look after certain coal stored near the oil tanks and godowns of Messrs. Arnhold Karberg & Co.
2. 1 first took charge of the coal on or about the 9th. of February, 1905, by order of the said firm of Shewan Toues & Co. After I took charge no person could remove the coal without orders given by my masters Messrs. Shewan Tomes & Co. who are the only persons I know as owners of the coal. I had no trouble until the evening of the 6th, of October last when an official who I was told was the Pun Yu Magistrate came with soldiers and made a pro- -clamation that he seized the coal as being the property of Chow Wing Yu (Chow Tung Shang) which was confiscated by Government edict and two placards relating to the seizure were posted up on the matsheds over the coal and two men were left in charge of the coal. On the next morning I reported what had happened to the Compradore at Canton of Messrs. Shewan Tomes & Co. A Chinese Government guard boat is also in charge of the coal.
And I make this solemn Declaration conscientiously
believing the same to be true and by virtue of the provisions of
the Statutory Declarations Act, 1835.
Declared at Victoria in Hongkong this
26th. day of February, 1906, through the
interpretation of Li Tax Yung of Land Office
the said Li Tax Yung having been also first declared that he had truly, distinctly and audibly interpreted the contents of this document to the declarant and that he would truly and faithfully interpret the declara- -tion about to be administered to him.
Before me,
(Sd.) Philip Jacks,
J.P. Victoria.
